Currently I am a psychology instructor at the Savannah College of Art and Design where I completed an MFA in the photography program in 2002.

My interest in picture taking and the entire photographic process became, as it is now, a kind of an avocation. I wanted to know more. I wanted to take more pictures. I wanted to learn how to make them ”turn out right”.

Eventually I began to work toward an MFA in photography. Along the way I entered pictures into a number of local exhibitions. I was awarded 1997 Best of Show at “Arts on the River”, a juried event held each year in Savannah. The following year I placed with a Special Merit Award in the same overall competition. In 2007 two of my photographs were accepted into the permanent collection of the Telfair Museum of Art, Savannah.
Traditionally I have been most concerned with developing a visual conservation of the South as a region, as the seat of a passing culture and a kind of psycho-social phenomenon found nowhere else – and so to say no when else - ever. I photograph remnants in the land, what I think of as psycho-social artifacts.

It is my intention that my photographs be evocative in that they provoke an awareness of cultural artifact that is worthy of the viewer’s exploring. I think that in general they offer the viewer an opportunity to develop, and even sometimes to restore his or her own awareness, remembrances, emotions, sense of community, sense of history, and so on. This, in part, I think, is what makes art, art.
